About Us
About Our Business
Our story began in 1985 when I came back from a missionary trip to Haiti. After spending several weeks in
the mountainous villages of Haiti preaching the good news, I came back to my home town of Tulsa, OK. A
friend of mine referred me to salon where in the process of getting my hair cut and a permanent I met the
salon's nail technician, Ginger, who gave me my first manicure - free of charge. A friendship developed
out of this meeting that in 2001, collimated in our ownership of Agape Hair and Nails by Ginger and
Friends.
Ginger began her own Hair and Nail salon in 1986-87. It was a very small shop on the corner of a major
street in Tulsa (81st & Sheridan). The year our daughter, Stephanie, graduated from Beauty College, she
helped Ginger during her maternity leave. Our families have stayed in contact over the years.
In 1999 I graduated from Oral Roberts University with a degree in Business Administration, and about that
same time Stephanie began to think about owning her own shop. We are a close knit family so I wrote the
business plan, and her father sketched out plans for a shop and volunteered to do all the maintenance
work that would be needed. We talked to several business owners in the industry and sought their advice
along with Ginger's.
After much prayer and hard work we were looking for a location when Ginger called to ask us if we were
interested in buying her shop. The asking price for her shop was out of our price range so we had to turn
her down. In the meantime, I submitted the business plan to a local business owner and asked him to look
over the plans. He said they were great, but what were our plans if all the women got pregnant at the
same time. My training in school had taught me to look for all the possible ways a business could succeed
as well as fail when considering starting your own company, but - I had never considered this! There was
no plan! And sure enough in less than one month our daughter was pregnant and then two of the five
people who were going to start the shop with her became pregnant in the succeeding four months.
More time went by, and in 2001 Ginger contacted us again, asking us to buy the shop. We went to the
Lord in prayer and came away with this answer, "You cannot buy another person's ministry." And
indeed, this was definitely Ginger's ministry. She loved doing all aspects of cosmetology and was very
good at it. Once again we turned Ginger down.
After a few months had passed my husband, myself and Stephanie came together to discuss what we
were to do. The dream was still alive, but we needed direction. We voiced to each other that we felt that
Ginger was to give us the shop; so, we left this matter in the Lord's hands knowing that if it was His will for
us to be given the shop that it would come to pass.
In October of 2001, Ginger contacted us again and said that God had spoken to her and that we were to
have the shop. Once again I told her that we could not buy someone else ministry. She replied, "I'm not
selling it to you I am giving it to you." God loves us and wants the best for us.
